Effective Utilization of Resources

Effective Utilization of Resources

Type and amount of emission waste

In order to protect the earth’s resources, we are progressing toward resource saving and reduction of waste generation through reduce/reuse/recycle (3 Rs). We promote "Zero emissions" (*) as possible, which means recycling and attempting to get as close to zero final disposals/landfills. As part of our ISO14001 activities, we are proceeding with initiatives to set annual plans and goals to achieve zero emissions by FY 2020.

(*) We define "Zero emission" as rate of recycling of 99.5% or more resources. However, the activities for which the disposal method and storage method are determined by law are excluded.

Compliance with environmental laws

At the Tochigi Segment, we comply with environmental laws and regulations and pollution control agreements with local communities, set voluntary standards, try to maintain and manage a good environment, and maintain a state where there are no violations of environmental (air or water quality) regulations.

Melted and solidified eco-slag

Melted and solidified eco-slag

Waste oil and sludge discharged from our restoration work after the massive earthquake are burned once and then slagged again at a high temperature, and then reused as harmless eco-slag as subbase course materials for East Japan infrastructure works.
