Lead-free
Solder
| Introduction |
|
| |
|
It is said that production of electronic
equipment starts from the solder joint and ends at the
solder joint. Modern electronic equipment has evolved
towards more microscopic and high density components.
As a result of this trend, various means of connection
have been developed. However, soldering remains the
most popular way of making a joint connection. |
|
|
| |
The history of soldering goes back some 5000 years, but
fundamentally soldering has always been based around the
tin and lead alloys. However, lead pollution in ground water
has been recognised as an environmental problem. With this
in mind, there is now worldwide movement in removing Lead
and other heavy metals from large sectors of the electronics
industry.
|
| |
|
|
In
Europe the European Parliament is making great efforts to
regulate the use / elimination of Lead and other heavy metals
within the Industry. To govern the control of the removal
of these heavy metals within the EU there are the “WEEE”
and “RoHS” directives. These directives do have
exemption clause for certain sectors of the industry. But,
those outside these exemptions have until July 2006 to comply.
Realising that the protection of our environment
is a main task going into the 21st century, Senju have earnestly
extended our research in this area and developed Lead-free
solder,“ECO Solder”. We provide total system solutions
encompassing lead-free soldering. |
